  • “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers." Psalm 1:1-3
  • "May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14
  • “God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer.” Mother Theresa

  • Read “Biblical Meditation” by Thomas A. Tarrants, III from the C.S. Lewis Institute. "Meditating on the Scriptures is vital practice for maturing in the Christian life. As one anonymous writer said, 'The Bible is not meant merely to inform but to transform.' Consider this beautiful description by Thomas Brooks, a seventeenth-century church leader: 'Remember that it is not hasty reading but serious meditation on holy and heavenly truths, that makes them prove sweet and profitable to the soul. It is not the mere touching of the flower by the bee that gathers honey, but her abiding for a time on the flower that draws out the sweet. It is not he that reads most but he that meditates most that will prove to be the choicest, sweetest, wisest and strongest Christian.'"

  • "Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? —unless indeed you fail to meet the test!" 2 Corinthians 13:5.
  • "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:23-24.
  • Examine your heart when it comes to meditating on Scripture for motives, concerns, readiness, and equipment.

EXAMINING OUR MOTIVES

  • "Father, give us the discipline to meditate in Your Word, “day and night.” Help us to take Your Word into our minds just as we take food into our bodies. Teach us to hide Your Word in our hearts that we might not sin against You. Help us to not succumb to the path of least resistance, but have the discipline we need to follow through with our good intentions. May we be motivated by our loving relationship with You. I pray for [anyone, including myself] who is struggling spiritually, neglecting Your Word, perhaps deliberately, perhaps because [she] finds Your words confusing or irrelevant. Help them to come back to Your promises, back to reading Your Book, and taking the time to think about it, to analyze it, to personalize it, and even memorize it. Lord give [her] a desire to live by every word that proceeds out of Your mouth. Lord, our love for Your Word must be birthed in us by Your Spirit; we must be lovers of Your truth, so that like Joshua, we can mediate in Your Word with the same promise of success.I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen." (From A Prayer to Meditate in the Scriptures by Erwin W. Lutzer).

  • READY: Now that you have studied Biblically, trained Spiritually, examined your heart, and prayed over this challenge, you are ready to undertake meditating on Scripture. You equipped yourself Spiritually, mentally, and physically, so get ready to go girl! This is a tough challenge! If you don't feel ready, trust that God has set you up to succeed!
  • SET: When God sent Moses with a message, Moses knew it may not be received or go well for him, to the point that in Exodus 4, Moses complained, "I am slow of speech and tongue” and said to the Lord, "Please send someone else". But Moses did go! Moses was later described as being "powerful in speech and action" (Acts 7:22). When it comes to sharing the Gospel, you may think, "Please ask anything else of me; I am unfocused and distracted easily" but God is calling you and will overcome your fears and faults to work through you. When we trust God, our inadequacy becomes our legacy.
